The silver and space grey M1 MacBook Air and Pro have the same machined aluminum casings and a small lip on the front of the base for opening the screen quickly. The Air has always had a tapered-wedge design.
A dedicated function row replaces the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pros, which have slimmer bezels. The 1080p webcam is housed in a notch at the top, but it’s not overly noticeable.
Design
The design of the M2 MacBook Pro is identical to that of its predecessor, the M1 model. There will be no tapered design on the M2 MacBook Air 2024, which is more like the 2024 MacBook Pro. It also has a notch for the camera, which reduces the phone’s bezels.
M1 MacBook Air’s iconic “teardrop” design and gold color option are the two features that make this laptop stand out from the pack for me.
The 2.8-pound MacBook Air, followed by the 3-pound 13-inch MacBook Pro, is the lightest laptop on the market. With only 3.5 pounds, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is still a reasonable travel companion.
The MacBook Air isn’t the best option if you need a lot of ports. Only two Thunderbolt 3 ports are available. Only two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports are available on the M1-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro. All of the M2-powered machines have the same number of ports available.
Display differences between MacBook Air and MacBook Pro:
The MacBook Air’s Retina display and the 13-inch MacBook Pro’s Retina display are sharp and vibrant, but their brightness differs.
The MacBook Air (M1) can only reach 365.8 nits of brightness, while the M1 MacBook Pro (13-inch) is even brighter. Per standard brightness testing, the M2 MacBook Pro’s brightness was 474.6 nits on the brightest setting.
Our colorimeter gave the Air (M1) an sRGB rating of 114.3 percent, slightly higher than the M1 13-inch Pro’s sRGB rating of 110.6 percent. However, in color output, the M1 laptops are more comparable. Check out the A1707 Macbook Pro.
The Liquid Retina XDR displays on the MacBook Pro 2024 models raise the bar for screen quality. They have a brightness rating of 1,000 nits and use mini-LED technology to produce more vibrant colors and better contrast between light and dark. For improved performance, you’ll also get a 120Hz ProMotion display.
Keyboard and Touch Bar Comparison:
Apple’s Magic Keyboard is available on all MacBooks you can buy, providing a high level of tactile performance and comfort.
In contrast to the 13-inch MacBook Pro’s OLED Touch Bar, the Touch Bar is absent from the MacBook Air. The fact that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models do away with the Touch Bar in favor of a dedicated row of physical keys is perhaps telling.
